COMMENTS Dr. Grandmaster Jung:

I came across some articles regarding the dedication of the tree in Cedar Rapids, and wanted to send congratulations. I also wanted to send thanks to you for the role you, and Tae Kwon Do played in my life.

I was a student of yours from 1981 - 1983. In June of 1983, I passed my test for Temporary Black Belt, but moved away from Cedar Rapids shortly afterwards.

Since moving, I have enjoyed a happy marriage of over 32 years, and recently retired from a long career in higher education. I had some success in my career (and my marriage) because I never forgot some of the tenants you reinforced during my training at your school: courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and perhaps most importantly when the going got rough, an indomitable spirit!

I have moved several times over the decades, and own very little of what I owned back in Cedar Rapids, but three things I never gave up were my uniform, my Jung’s Membership Card and the patch from my early days at your school (attached). When the going ever gets tough, all I have to do is look at those to remember that I can do, or overcome anything.

Thank you for passing along your skills and wisdom to so many people over the years. Many, like me, owe you a debt of gratitude for your assistance!

Congratulations on your tribute, and best wishes,

Bruce Walthers
