  난  29세에 미국에 와서 35년간 미국에서 태권도인으로 살아왔다. 태권도인으로서 분단 조국과 내가 살고 있는 제2의 고향 미국이 좋은 관계를 가지기를 늘 바라왔다. 91년에 남북한과 미국이 친선도모를 위해 6개월이 넘는 논의 끝에, 뉴욕, 시카고, 휴스톤, LA, 샌프란시스코 등 미국 여러 지역에서 어린이 태권도 시범을하기로 약속했다. 그러나 그 계획은 한국의 일방적인 파기로 무산되었다. 길고 힘들었던 과정…

  재미 태권도인 정우진 사범자들과 함께 민족분단의 상징인 판문점에서 남북화해와 통일을 기원하는 태권도 시범을 선보여 관심을 끌었다. 정 사범 일행은 지난 5월, 북한에서 열린 태권도 축전에 참가한 후 판문점에 들러 “1960년대 후반 탁구가 미국과 중국의 해빙무드를 만들었듯이 이제는 민족의 무도인 태권도가 남북의 화해와 평화를정착시키는데 기여할 것”이라며 이간은 퍼포먼스를 펼쳤다.
